We all have moments like these…
You think something good is going to happen, you looked forward to something, or maybe you finished something and expected a good result or something fresh to start. And then… you end up on a side path, something comes in between, extra bills come in, and so on. The disappointment, anger or sadness arrives…
The funny thing is, years before I wrote my book, way before I ever did some research on psychology, personal development, or any other topic about life and all of its mysteries, me and my family were already talking about this, sometimes even in a funny way, making jokes about it. It almost seemed as if nothing could go “right” or “good” from the first time or attempt. It actually became a common thing to say in our family, we were so convinced that “life” would take us on a detour before giving us what we wanted or expected. We said things like “it will probably go wrong before we achieve this or that”, or “when we try to do something, there’s always something that pops up out of nowhere while others don’t seem to have that problem”.
After analyzing this behavior for years, me also doing the same thing, also making these kinds of judgements, also having these “bad expectations”, I realized that it’s not that we were attracting those bad experiences intentionally, but we just kept interfering with the manifestation processes of our “first thoughts” as described in my book. The full explanation of The Universal Manifestation Theory can be found here (available for free).
We believed in a good outcome, looked forward to something, but half way during the process, we kept creating new beliefs, having second thoughts, creating a new belief that “it won’t go as planned” or “something will go wrong”, simple based on some negative thoughts that created some unpleasant emotions along the way, often based on previous experiences. I do take responsibility for all of these setbacks in my life, I think that’s the first step to get rid of this behavior, recognizing it. These new negative thoughts often showed up because of “judging”, or “not trusting others to fulfill their duty”, something you don’t have control over, that’s the space where anxiety takes over and your belief or even “faith” is tested.
Truth is, it’s actually perfectly normal for setbacks and disappointments to show up on your path to something. This is where many people struggle with, especially people who learned the original law of attraction. When we talk about putting energy into a certain thought, the opposite emotions created by that thought can also bring an enormous amount of fear, even fear of fear.
A common thing that happens with people who’re intentionally trying to manifest something based on the original law of attraction, is “overthinking”, thinking that it’s a huge mistake to feel down once in a while and start having this fear of fear, fear of having ruined their dreams because of having a few second thoughts or feelings that aren’t supposed to be there… I talk about this in my book, there’s also something as “quick thoughts”. Our brains produce thousands of thoughts a day, that’s scientifically proven based on the activity measured in our brains, non-stop processing the things around us. Of course this happens on a subconscious level, we’re not aware of all of this activity in our brains, but we can focus on the thoughts that we are aware of.
During a the manifestation process of a first thought, we can actually do 2 things. 1. We can accept that negativity will show up on our path and accept it for what it is, so that the manifestation process can continue.
2. We can put large amounts of energy in a new thought that creates a new belief and stops the first manifestation process.
But this is where it gets interesting. During the negative moments on our “path to success”, these so called “quick thoughts” that we have, are actually not really a problem. Second thoughts only have an effect when the emotion created by the second thought is stronger than the emotion invoked by the first thought. This is “belief” at work behind the scenes, on a subconscious level. We have the ability to say “that won’t work” after we’ve initially said “it will be fine”, and we can do this if only a small amount of energy is put into that second thought. Our subconscious ensures that we keep the original belief in our first thought; it views this second thought as a “quick thought”, a simple expression of spoken or unspoken words.
These quick words are almost disregarded by us, but only if the emotion behind these words is not stronger than the emotion invoked by the first thought. Our subconscious considers a quick thought still as part of the creation process of the first thought, as part of the emotion shift cycle. This cycle is a back-and-forward path full of desired and undesired emotions, ups and downs, leading to a physical manifestation of a thought in reality. It’s only when a second thought creates a new, stronger belief than the belief of the first thought that the first thought will not be manifested into reality. This is also the reason why we’re able to make jokes or tell fiction stories that will never become reality, our body and subconscious mind “know” that these thoughts are not created to change or create a “belief”.
